What is your current role at Braun Intertec?

What is your professional background?
I got my Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University. In school I started in general engineering, but planned to pursue civil engineering because I was always interested in construction and being outdoors. After going through my classes in the first year, and realizing chemistry wasn’t right for me, I was set on civil engineering!

What has your career path looked like at Braun Intertec?
I had a few different job offers after college, but because I had done my co-ops at Braun Intertec, liked the company and the people, I went back and started out in the field for the majority of my first year.

Collaboration with the client and project team. I specifically try to understand the client’s perspective, their role (developer, contractor, long-term owner, etc.), and key hot buttons. Cost is usually the primary decision driver for clients, but cost can come in many forms. People tend to focus on initial design or construction costs, but longer-term costs such as replacement or maintenance, or potential cost in terms of risk or probability of an issue may be equal or greater considerations.
What traits do you look for in your team members?
We prefer team members who have a strong work ethic, are self-starters, and good communication skills. Specifically, in regards to communication skills, it’s very important for consultants to learn how to be concise (in both verbal and written communication), as well as being a good listener.

Culture and teamwork are big here. Our culture is a combination of employee-ownership and a work hard-play hard mentality. Our engineering group does a lot of external events together and many are friends outside of work.
我建议有人进入专业be: be willing to take chances in your career and don’t be afraid of spending time in the field. In fact, field work early in your career sets you up better for success in the long term. It’s tough to be a good engineer if you don’t understand how projects are actually built in the field.
