W&M Environmental (now owned by Braun Intertec) was contacted to conduct a baseline industrial hygiene and safety assessment and to revise or establish applicable safety programs, as needed.
Our team interviewed the client’s employees and conducted a site visit to identify contaminants of interest and develop a sampling strategy. We conducted the industrial hygiene assessment on four different days over a three week span in 2013, to capture the variability in workplace exposures. The assessment included a combination of personal and area air sampling, personal noise dosimetry, and heat stress monitoring supplemented by a comprehensive area noise survey.
Our team determined employees exposure to air contaminants was well below established occupational exposure limits. Noise exposure in production areas exceeded the action level necessitating a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) so we assisted the client with revising their existing HCP, developed a customized employee training curriculum, mapped noise levels throughout production areas and refined the list of employee groups to be included in the HCP.
In conjunction with the IH assessment, we conducted a safety assessment. Our team assisted the client with developing a Heat Stress Program for its employees working near the furnace and worked with employees to develop job hazard assessments for each major job category. The client’s Confined Space Entry Program was revised, confined spaces evaluated, and mapped.
Our team continues to provide ongoing support to the client in the areas of safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance.
