Volunteering at Texas High School Civil Engineering Club

“It is a difficult task, to not only get a small group of shy high school students to pay attention but to engage and想知道.”

Randy Deatherage, a project engineer from our Arlington, Texas office, recently visited O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth, Texas to present to the school’s new civil engineering club. The new club is the first of its kind on the west side of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex,并将在各种土木工程领域举办每周演示者,该领域将与课程与其工程经验交谈,并在动手活动中引导小组。

As the group’s first presenter, Randy discussed his background with geotechnical engineering and led an activity with mechanically stabilized earth, which arecommonly used in retaining walls and bridge abutments. Using the reinforced soils, Randy demonstrated how a sandcastle could support the weight of a human being.

We were happy to visit the new civil engineering club and share our excitement about the engineering profession with the next generation of engineers. Braun Intertec fully supportsgiving back通过与这样的群体志愿者志愿者,通过这样的团体志愿,致力于茎。

Thank you from CE Club founder Alexis Clark

Randy brought to life a field that most high schoolers have never heard of and his demonstration using grid to transfer loads through sand truly blew their minds. It is a difficult task, to not only get a small group of high school students to pay attention but to engage and wonder.

By sharing his enthusiasm for his industry, the daily problems he solves, and the company he works for, Randy effortlessly brought energy to the classroom that stuck with the students throughout the semester. I’ve just reviewed this semester’s performance with the teacher with whom I coordinate CE Club, and he once again expressed the impact Randy had on many of his students.
